
Puerto Rican–Style Cube Steak (Bistec Guisado)

Ingredients
• 2 lbs cube steak
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• ¼ cup white vinegar
• 1 tbsp sofrito
• 1 can tomato sauce
• Adobo Picante y Sabor Food
• 1 tsp dried oregano (plus more for cooking)
• ½ cup onion, sliced
• ½ cup red or orange bell pepper, sliced
• 1 packet sazón with color
• ¼ cup water
• 1 packet powdered chicken powder
• Salt and black pepper, to taste

Marinade
• 2 tsp Adobo Picante y Sabor Food
• ½ tsp black pepper
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• ¼ cup white vinegar
• 1 tsp dried oregano
• 1 tsp dried cilantro
• 1–2 garlic cloves, minced
• Sliced onions

Instructions
1. Marinate the steak
Season cube steak with Adobo Picante y Sabor Food, black pepper, olive oil, vinegar, dried oregano, dried cilantro, minced garlic, and onions.
Cover and marinate for a few hours (overnight recommended).
2. Cook the meat
In a skillet over medium heat, add the cube steak with the marinade, onions, and peppers.
Cover and cook for 10 minutes.
3. Build the sauce
Flip steaks and add tomato sauce, sofrito, additional dried oregano, sazón, water, chicken bouillon, more adobo if needed, salt, and pepper.
4. Simmer
Lower heat, cover, and cook for about 1 hour, until tender and flavorful.
5. Serve
Serve hot with arroz blanco, tostones, or habichuelas 🇵🇷🍽️

Before seasoning, I wash the cube steak with half a lemon, then rinse and pat dry.
